 New York Travel Guide - Top Things To Do In New York City, USA (Tourist Places)

I think New York is one of the greatest cities on our planet and is also one of the most well known too. When someone thinks of the United States, they think of New York first. According to statistics, over 60 million people visit New York city every year which is a mind blowing number. Many Hollywood movies portray New York in their movies, which is one of the reasons for the popularity of this city. Like for example, I got to know about NYC through original Spiderman movies. And I fell in love with the beauty of it, many games also portrayed NYC like Grand Theft Auto IV. This is a city that never sleeps. 



New York is a dream city for millions of people all over the world, it is also one of the world's most expensive city which is justified. NYC seems futuristic thanks to over 300 skyscrapers here, with Empire State Building being the most recognizable. There are just so many things about this city and why I love it, but this article is not about it.

So let's begin, I will be listing some of the best places you can tour in NYC. 

1. Statue Of Liberty 



Statue of Liberty is America's most iconic statue and sight and when people think of New York city, it is one of the first things that comes to their mind. I think it is the world's most recognizable statue. It is about 151 ft or 46 meters tall. 

Talking about its history, it was a gift of friendship from France to USA. It is a symbol of freedom, democracy and is a top tourist attraction in the country. Statue of Liberty is situate on the Liberty island which you can go to through a boat. 

You can also go to Ellis island where you will get to visit the immigration museum. This was the place where thousands of immigration came to get processed before entering the US. 

You can buy one ticket for both Statue of Liberty and Ellis island tour. 

2. Times Square



New York's most recognized place located in the heart of Manhattan. In this place you will see huge lit billboards and screens everywhere where advertisements are played. It is just very beautiful to look at during the evening but it is still as good during the day too. Times Square is always crowded any time of the day and there are a lot of shops here where you can buy things, enjoy theaters or just have amazing food and drinks. You will come across artists and dancers often here who will sing or dance, or do tricks, acting and much more. Crowds are gathered here to enjoy the moment. You will really have fun here.

During the New Year's eve, the Ball is dropped at Times Square and thousands of people gather to celebrate New Year. 

Here's a fun fact: Times Square attracts over 50 million people every year. Times Square is also the hub for New York's entertainment industry with Broadway theater. 

There is also a digital art display that happens during right at the midnight. At this time the ads are replaced with digital arts. 

3. Brooklyn Bridge



Brooklyn bridge is New York's most famous bridge that has gothic look to it. It is also the world's first steel suspension bridge completed in 1883. You can take a long walk on the bridge and enjoy the beauty of New York from here. You can also see Statue of Liberty from the bridge. 

Brooklyn bridge connects Brooklyn to Manhattan. Brooklyn bridge is one of the most famous tourist attraction of NYC. 

4. Empire State Building



Empire State Building is NYC's one of the most famous landmark and tourist attraction. It is a 381 meters tall and has 102 floors. It used to be the world's tallest building until 1971. 

There are two observatories in this building you can visit and see the beauty of NYC and even the neighboring states. This building is iconic as it has been portrayed in a lot of movies, songs, games and other forms of entertainment. 

If you are coming to NYC. You should definitely visit the Empire State Building and enjoy the breathtaking beauty of New York. 

5. Central Park 



Central Park is one of the world's most well known parks and is iconic. Well at this point I will say everything about New York is iconic. This park is about 2.5 miles long and 0.5 mile wide. 

You can take a walk here, jog or just relax. Enjoy the scenery and nature here. I mean wouldn't you love to enjoy nature in a concrete jungle? Haha. You can even do fishing here and for free or rent remote controlled model sailboats. Picnic is also a popular activity on Central Park. 

6. New York Public Library 



If you are into reading books then you will love this place. You have probably seen the New York Public Library in movies and TV shows. There are over 55 millions books in this library and it has amazing architecture in the Beaux Arts style. This library was designed by architects Carrere & Hastings.

7. 9/11 Memorial & Museum 



After the tragic incident of 11 September 2001 where thousands of lives were lost, 9/11 Memorial was built to honor those men, women, firefighters, police and many more people. The memorial is absolutely stunning to look at. There is also a Museum there which you can visit to know more about the history of that incident. If you are visiting NYC, you should visit this place.

This building is constructed where the World Trade center used to be. Pay your respects here. 

8. Food & Drinks



There are thousands of restaurants, cafes, food joints, pubs, bars and much more in New York where you can taste the heaven itself. You will find food culture from all over the world here. If you want to eat Italian, Mexican, Indian, British, Thai or whatever you want, you will find it here. And they have quality taste. Just make sure you find the right place. And for that I recommend you using Google Maps and check places according to their ratings. 

Food is love.

There are a lot of museums you can visit in New York, more than I have mentioned before. From sculptures to art galleries, to historical artifacts to contemporary art, You will find it all.
